I’m Diwan Babu, proprietor of Designism. I wanted to share a little about how we got here.

Designism was officially started in 2009, mainly because we needed VAT registration to work with corporate clients. But our actual printing journey began much earlier, under the name Guru Colortech. We started in a small 450 sq ft office near the iconic Indian Express Circle on Cunningham Road in Bangalore.

Back then, we mainly did photocopying and DTP work. We were among the early ones in Bangalore to offer Color Xerox and Color Scanning — services that were quite premium at the time. In the early 2000s, advertising agencies needed colour photocopies from their black books to create mockups for print ads. Helping them with this work brought us closer to the creative side of things. Slowly, we added large format printers to support POS, signage, exhibitions, and retail branding projects.

By 2007, we had become one of the few printing businesses in Bangalore that offered almost everything under one roof — photocopying, colour printing, binding, lamination, large format printing, plan printing, and more.

In 2009, we added a design vertical to our business and named it D4Designism. We’ve always believed that good design should be accessible to everyone — not just big companies that can afford big advertising agencies. Over the years, we’ve helped hundreds of businesses — corporates, manufacturers, retailers, and service companies — get a proper professional look for their brands.

Things were going steadily until COVID hit. It affected us badly. For more than two years, most corporates stopped needing printing work because it wasn’t considered essential. The industry changed, and suddenly our model of having both design and printing under one roof didn’t feel as relevant anymore.

That’s when we decided to pivot towards the interior space. As a designer, I had been creating my own artworks and illustrations, but I was never really happy with the print quality available in the market. After some research, I discovered archival printing. It not only gave much better colour accuracy and longevity but also opened up a whole new world for us in art and interiors.

We added an HP Latex printer to produce custom wallpapers, and more recently we brought in a Roland UV large format printer to push further in this space. What I love most is that every project we do now feels different and creative. It keeps us on our toes and excited about printing again.

Today, along with our printing and design work, we also make short-run custom gift boxes, personalised tote bags, and bespoke gifting products using teakwood with the help of artisans. We create wall murals and paintings for interior designers, architects, illustrators, tattoo artists, photographers, coffee roasters, F&B businesses, and product designers.

We’re really grateful to all our patrons who have trusted us through the years. We’re looking forward to whatever comes next.
